Topical Shading-Camouflage Thinning Hair

Instructions & Problem Solver

Instructions

Start with a clean, dry scalp, if your hair is damp, that's OK. It's best to apply DermMatch before putting on your shirt. A brightly lit bathroom sink and mirror are good for application. Wet your applicator.

Rub your damp applicator in the container.

Rub in circular motions. Make sure the colored powder is accumulating on the applicator tip. A brand new disc may need a little extra water and rubbing.

Rub your applicator directly on
the scalp. Color one small area at a time.

Keep your applicator damp and rub again in the container for more colored powder. Continue applying until the exposed area is colored evenly. Apply only enough for even color. Use a hand mirror to color the back of the head. If you're applying along the front hairline, fade the color towards the forehead. Fade it by applying pale color with a dry applicator or by gently wiping off color with a tissue. Wiping works best when your color has dried. Also experiment with the placement of your hairline. When you're done applying, rinse your applicator and stand it up to dry.

When you're done coloring the area, brush or comb your hair right away while it's still damp from application. This distributes your DermMatch in the area of application so it can thicken and coat thin hairs. Now your application needs to dry. If you normally blow dry, use low heat. Otherwise, brushing or combing every few minutes will speed drying. The hair roots are the last to dry, so be sure to brush or comb down to the roots. This helps maximize your hair's fullness. Your application is dry when it's dry to the roots.

When your application is completely dry, brush your hair thoroughly. Use a firm, salon-quality brush. Brush down to the roots and out to the ends. Thorough brushing of your dried application gives a final lift to thin hairs now coated and thickened by DermMatch. It also helps remove any excess DermMatch from your hair. If you have any excess powder on your forehead, wipe it with a tissue. Wet Wipes or rubbing alcohol on a paper towel work great for the back of your neck and shoulders. If there is excess powder on your clothing, don't touch it. Shake it off or blast it off with a blow dryer. Use any shampoo to remove DermMatch.

What's Your Problem?

I can't get any powder on my applicator...
First, make sure your applicator tip is wet. Rub with mild pressure in circular motions in the container. Look at the tip. If there is no accumulated powder, try again with a new applicator and a little more water and rubbing. If there is still no powder on the tip, please contact your place of purchase.

It won't go on my scalp...
This is almost always a hard water problem. It's easy to fix. First, make sure your scalp is clean and dry. Damp hair is OK. Also make sure that you have powder on your applicator. Hard water has dissolved minerals (rock) in it. It can eventually ruin your plumbing, sinks, tubs, showers and drains. Hard water can't rinse soap and shampoo from your body and hair. This is unhealthful for your skin and unattractive for your hair. Soap film blocks DermMatch from applying to your scalp. Distilled water is the answer. Any grocery or drug store sells distilled water for about $2 a gallon. Keep a small bottle in the shower and always rinse your scalp and hair with it after shampooing. Also, use distilled water for applying DermMatch.

My container is hardening...
This is also a hard water problem. (See previous problem.) The minerals in hard water can build up in your container over weeks and months of use. If you have hard water, use distilled water to apply DermMatch.

My color looks wrong...
First, complete your application. DermMatch always looks different after application. If it still appears to be the wrong color, there are 8 blendable shades to choose from. Here's how to pick the right color: Shampoo to remove any DermMatch. When your hair dries, look in the mirror. Look at your hair root color in the area of loss. This is the color to match. If you dye your hair one color, match that color If you have highlighted ends with darker roots, match the root color. If your hair color falls between shades or if your hair is turning gray, you can blend colors. Rub your applicator in the darker color first and then into the lighter color for a custom blend.

I have highlighted hair...
Choose a color that matches your hair roots, not your highlights. Don't brush the DermMatch through your hair during application. Also, try applying with a dry or barely damp applicator.

My hair looks dull and chalky...
First, make sure that your application has completely dried right down to the hair roots. Then give it a thorough brushing with a firm brush. This will remove excess powder from your hair. Also, be sure to apply only enough DermMatch for even color. Any more creates excess powder. If your hair still looks dull, you may need a darker shade.

My coverage gets greasy...
Your scalp produces a natural, protective lubricant called sebum. Excessive sebum production is called seborrhea. It can cause your hair, scalp and DermMatch to look greasy. Make sure you start off with a clean, dry scalp before you apply your DermMatch. if your coverage begins to look greasy after a few hours, switch to a shampoo specifically designed for seborrhea or oily hair.

I use styling products on my hair...
DermMatch has hair holding properties. Try it by itself first. If you still think you need gels, mousse, sprays or any other styling formula, that's OK. Test them first. Some products have ingredients that can loosen DermMatch and ruin its water-resistant quality. Test by rubbing DermMatch on your forearm. Let it dry. Now put some styling product on top. Run water on it. Does it stay on? There are hundreds of styling products, so choose one that doesn't stop you from wearing DermMatch in water, rain or sweat. Also, make sure your styling product is not on the scalp when you apply DermMatch. It will interfere with application.

I don't brush out my hair style...
Some people don't brush through their hair when they style it. This includes permed, kinky, braided or curled hair. No problem. You don't have to brush the DermMatch through your hair. Also, try applying DermMatch with a dry or barely damp applicator. You can apply DermMatch before or after you style, whichever works best for you.

It gets on my collar...
Apply DermMatch before you put on your shirt. Apply only enough for even color. Any more creates excess powder. Also be sure that your application is dried to the roots before giving it a thorough brushing. This removes excess powder. Now wipe the back of your neck and shoulders. Use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel or Wet Wipes. Some customers report that baby wipes are absolutely perfect for this!

It gets on my pillow case...
If your coverage directly impacts linens, you may get some colored powder on them. Pillow cases matched to your DermMatch color are a great idea. DermMatch launders off linens. For tough spots, try cleaning with rubbing alcohol or a laundry pre-treatment. Test a small corner of the linen first for color fastness.

It sticks to my sink and tub...
Actually, it sticks to soap scum. Shampoo, conditioners, soap and other products leave a thin, invisible film in your sink, shower and tub. This film traps everything, including DermMatch. A weekly cleaning is a good habit. Products like Soft Scrub and a sponge work like magic.
